The tribe has been working with environmental groUPS on a plan to offset any environmental impacts of the project. The plan includes measures to reduce traffic and light pollution, and to protect sensitive habitat areas.

The casino project has been controversial. Some residents worry about increased traffic and crime in the area.

Others believe that the casino would bring much-needed economic development to Richmond.

A final decision on whether to build the casino will be made by the City Council in early 2020. If approved, construction is expected to begin in 2021 and be completed in 2023.
