In Deer Hunter, Michael (Robert De Niro) is a Vietnam War veteran who lives in a small town in Pennsylvania. He is a blue-collar worker who is struggling to make ends meet. One day, he goes hunting with his friends, Nick (Christopher Walken) and Stan (John Savage). They are in the woods when they hear a noise. They investigate and find a deer. They shoot it and then skin it.

They also find a rifle. Michael takes the rifle and points it at Nick, who is standing next to him. Michael pulls the trigger, but the gun does not fire. Michael then hands the gun to Nick, who points it at Michael and pulls the trigger. The gun fires and kills Michael.
