Who Wins in Poker if Both Have a Pair?

In poker, two players can have a pair, which is two cards of the same rank. If both players have a pair, the player with the higher-ranking pair wins.

For example, if one player has a pair of twos and the other player has a pair of threes, the player with the three-of-a-kind wins.

PRO TIP:If two players have a pair, the player with the higher pair wins. If both players have an identical pair, the player with the highest remaining card (kicker) will win. If both players have identical pairs and kickers, the pot is split.

If both players have the same pair, the next highest card is used to determine the winner. For example, if both players have a pair of kings, and the next highest card is an ace, the player with the ace wins.

If both players have the same next highest card, the next card is used, and so on.
