Will There Be a Casino in Pope County Arkansas?

The casino industry in the United States is booming and Pope County, Arkansas is hoping to get in on the action. There are currently no casinos in the county, but that could all change if a proposal by the Quapaw Tribe is approved.

The tribe has plans to build a $350 million dollar casino resort just outside of Russellville, the county seat. The resort would include a hotel, restaurants, bars, and a gaming floor with over 1,000 slot machines and 40 table games.

The Quapaw Tribe already operates a successful casino in Oklahoma and they are confident that they would be able to replicate that success in Pope County. The tribe has been working with local officials and business leaders to make their case for why a casino would be good for the county.

PRO TIP:Based on recent news, Pope County in Arkansas has yet to approve any casino applications. Therefore, it is currently unclear if a casino will be established in the county. It may be worthwhile to keep an eye out for any further updates on this matter.

They argue that it would create jobs and generate revenue for the county through taxes and tourism.

Opponents of the casino proposal argue that it would lead to increased crime and gambling addiction. They also worry that the casino would take business away from existing businesses in the county.

The Quapaw Tribe’s proposal still needs to be approved by the federal government and the Arkansas Racing Commission before it can move forward. If all goes well, construction on the casino resort could begin as early as next year.

It remains to be seen if Pope County will ultimately get its own casino, but it is certainly possible.
