Poker is one of the most popular card games in the world, played by millions of people. It is a game of skill and strategy, where players must make their best five-card hand from a combination of their own cards and those on the table. In this tutorial, we will explain how to play normal poker.
The Basics:
The game of poker is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. The cards are ranked from highest to lowest: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2. In poker games like Texas Hold’em and Omaha Hold’em each player is dealt two private cards also known as hole cards.
How to Play:
The game begins with each player placing an ante or an initial bet into the pot. The dealer then deals two private cards face down to each player.
These are known as hole cards. Once all players have received their hole cards betting begins.
After the first round of betting has taken place a total of three community cards are dealt face up on the table in front of all players. This is known as the flop.
Another round of betting takes place starting with the player to the left of the dealer button.
After this round of betting is completed another community card called the turn card is revealed.
Another round of betting takes place starting with the player to the left of the dealer button again.
Finally another community card called the river card is revealed.
A final round of betting takes place starting with the player that’s seated immediately after dealer button position has completed his/her turn in clockwise direction around table.
The Showdown:
Once all bets have been placed and all rounds have been completed it’s time for ‘the showdown’. This is where each player reveals their hand in order to determine who has won. The player with the highest ranking hand wins the pot.
Ranking Hands:
In poker, there are ten different hand rankings. From lowest to highest these are:
1. High Card
2. One Pair
3. Two Pair
4. Three of a Kind
5. Straight
6.
Flush
7. Full House
8. Four of a Kind
9. Straight Flush
10. Royal Flush
