In blackjack, the goal is to have a hand that totals closer to 21 than the dealer’s hand, without going over 21 (busting). The player who gets closest to 21 without busting wins the hand.

If both the player and dealer have the same point total, it’s a push, and neither player nor dealer wins or loses. Blackjack usually pays 3-2, which means a $5 bet wins $7.50.

Some casinos have blackjack tables that pay 6-5 for a natural blackjack instead. That makes it very important for players to know basic strategy so they can make the right decisions and avoid busting.
