How Many Spell Slots Do Warlocks Have?

As a full caster, the warlock has access to a wide range of spells. However, they are limited in the number of spells they can cast per day. This is represented by their spell slots.

At 1st level, a warlock has 2 spell slots. They gain an additional spell slot at 2nd level and every two levels thereafter, up to a maximum of 8 spell slots at 18th level.

A warlock can cast any spell they know without expending a spell slot. However, doing so comes at a cost.

The warlock takes 2d12 psychic damage for each level of the spell they cast in this way. This damage can’t be reduced or prevented in any way.

In addition, the warlock can choose to expend a spell slot when they cast a spell. Doing so allows them to add their Charisma modifier to the damage dealt by the spell.

At higher levels, a warlock gains access to more powerful spells. These are known as invocations and are divided into two types: eldritch invocations and patron invocations. Eldritch invocations are available to all warlocks, while patron invocations are specific to each patron.

A warlock can learn any number of invocations, but can only use a limited number of them at any given time. The number of invocations a warlock can use is equal to their Charisma modifier (minimum of 1).

The final type of spells available to a warlock are those granted by their patron. These spells do not count against the number of spells known and can be cast without expending a spell slot.

However, they can only be cast once per day.

In conclusion, Warlocks have a total of 8 Spell Slots that refill after taking a Long Rest; however they may know an infinite amount of Spells due to their patrons teaching them new ones. An Warlock may also choose to spend one of these Spell Slots when casting any Spell they know in order to deal additional damage equal to their Charisma Modifier; but beware as this comes at the cost of taking 2d12 Psychic Damage for each level of the Spell being casted in this way.
