Which Pair Is Higher in Poker?

There are many different variations of poker, but the most common and popular is Texas Hold’em. In this game, each player is dealt two cards face down, which are known as hole cards. There are then five community cards dealt face up in the middle of the table. These are known as the flop, turn and river.

Players can use any combination of their hole cards and the community cards to make the best five card poker hand. The player with the highest hand wins the pot.

In terms of hand rankings, a pair is always higher than a high card. So, for example, if you have a pair of aces and your opponent has an ace and a king, you will win the pot.

PRO TIP:In poker, the highest pair is the pair with the highest value card. For example, if you have a pair of Kings, that would be higher than a pair of Jacks. Aces are always the highest card, so if you have a pair of Aces it will always be the highest.

If both players have a pair, then the highest pair wins. If both players have the same pair, then the next highest card is used to determine the winner.

There are some exceptions to this rule though. In games like Omaha and Stud, there are sometimes different hand rankings. In Omaha, for example, a player can use any combination of two hole cards and three community cards to make a hand.

This means that it is possible to have a flush or straight using just hole cards. In these games, it is typically the highest hand that wins the pot rather than just pairs being higher than high cards.
