The Nugget has been a staple in the Reno-Sparks community since 1955 and has been owned by the same family for generations. In recent years, the casino has struggled to compete with the newer and more luxurious properties that have opened up in Reno and Las Vegas.

The Nugget was originally founded by Bill Harrah, the famous casino magnate who also founded Harrah’s Entertainment (now Caesars Entertainment). The property has changed hands a few times over the years and was most recently purchased by Sparks Nugget LLC in 2002.
