Is There Horse Racing at Hollywood Casino?

As one of the largest casinos in Pennsylvania, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course offers a wide variety of gaming options for visitors. One popular form of gambling at the casino is horse racing.

Hollywood Casino is home to a racetrack that features live horse racing from April to October each year. However, recent changes to Pennsylvania’s gambling lAWS have left the future of horse racing at Hollywood Casino in question.

In 2017, the Pennsylvania Legislature passed a law that authorized casino-operated slot machines and table games, like blackjack and poker. The legislation also included a provision that would allow casino operators to apply for “satellite” casinos in up to two locations outside of their current facility.

PRO TIP:Hollywood Casino offers a variety of virtual horse racing options. These virtual races can be found in the casino’s racing section and offer the same excitement as traditional horse racing events. The races are also available for betting, allowing players to take part in the action from the comfort of their own home.

This provision was seen as a way to generate additional revenue for the state’s casinos, which are struggling to compete with neighboring states that have legalized commercial casinos.

While the legislation did not specifically mention horse racing, the Pennsylvania Horsemen’s Association (PHA) voiced concern that the satellite casinos could eventually lead to the closure of racetracks like Hollywood Casino. The PHA argued that the satellite casinos would siphon away customers and revenue from the existing racetracks, making it difficult for them to compete.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has not yet issued any licenses for satellite casinos, so it remains to be seen how this will impact horse racing at Hollywood Casino. For now, live horse racing continues at the track, but its long-term future is uncertain.
