Is Twin Arrows Casino Going to Open?

The future of the Twin Arrows Casino is up in the air after the Navajo Nation Council voted not to renew the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise’s (NNGE) gaming compact. The NNGE’s gaming compact with the State of Arizona is set to expire on June 1, 2019 and the Navajo Nation Council’s vote not to renew it puts the future of the casino in jeopardy.

The NNGE has been working with the state to try to negotiate a new compact that would allow the casino to continue operating, but with the Navajo Nation Council’s vote, it is unclear if that will be possible. The Navajo Nation Council’s vote was in response to concerns about how the NNGE has been run and allegations of financial mismanagement.

The NNGE has denied any financial mismanagement and has said that it is committed to transparency and accountability. The NNGE is hopeful that it can still reach a new compact with the state that will allow the casino to remain open, but it is uncertain at this time what will happen.
