According to sources, Wheeling Island Casino is set to close its doors for good. The casino, which is located in West Virginia, has been struggling to keep up with the competition in recent years.

This is especially true after the opening of the Mountaineer Casino in Chester, just across the border in Pennsylvania.

The Mountaineer Casino has been siphoning off a lot of Wheeling Island’s business, and it’s only gotten worse since the pandemic hit. With so many people out of work and struggling to make ends meet, they just don’t have the disposable income to gamble like they used to.

This has been a death knell for a lot of casinos across the country, and it looks like Wheeling Island is finally throwing in the towel. It’s unclear at this time what will happen to the property once it closes, but it’s safe to say that it will be bought up by another casino operator eventually.

So, while it’s sad to see another casino closing its doors, it’s not really all that surprising. The pandemic has taken a toll on so many businesses, and the gambling industry has been hit especially hard.
