What Are the Poker Hands Best to Worst?

Poker is a game of chance where players bet on the value of the cards they are holding. The aim is to make the best possible hand so that you can win the pot. The value of the hands from best to worst is as follows:

Royal Flush: This is the best hand in poker and is made up of an Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten, all of the same suit.

Straight Flush: This hand is made up of five cards in sequence, all of the same suit. For example, 9 8 7 6 5.

Four of a Kind: This hand contains four cards of the same rank. For example, four Aces or four 7s.

Full House: This hand contains three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank. For example, three Aces and two Kings.

PRO TIP:In poker, the value of your hand is determined by the strength of the five-card combination you hold. The strongest hands are a Royal Flush (Ace-King-Queen-Jack-10 all in the same suit), followed by a Straight Flush (any five cards in sequence with same suit), Four of a Kind (all four cards of the same rank), Full House (three matching cards of one rank and two matching cards of another rank), Flush (any five cards all in the same suit), Straight (any five cards in sequence but not all in one suit), Three of a Kind (three matching cards of one rank), Two Pair (two sets of two matching cards with different ranks) and One Pair (two matching cards).

Flush: This hand contains five cards all of the same suit but not in sequence. For example, Q J 10 9 8 all of clubs.

Straight: This hand contains five cards in sequence but not all of the same suit. For example, 5 4 3 2 A all different suits.

Three of a Kind: This hand contains three cards of one rank and two other unrelated cards. For example, three Queens and a 10 9.

Two Pair: This hand contains two cards of one rank and two cards of another rank with one other unrelated card. For example, Q Q 10 10 4.

One Pair: This hand contains two cards of one rank and three other unrelated cards. For example, J J A K 5.

High Card: When you don’t have any other combination this is the hand you have and your highest card is what determines if you win or not. So for example if you have A J 8 4 2 and your opponent has K 10 7 5 3 then you would win as your highest card is an Ace compared to their King.
