In poker, there are a total of 10 different hand rankings. These are the winning hands that will give you the pot in most games of poker. Here is a list of the 10 best hands in poker, in descending order:
10. Four of a Kind
Four of a kind is when you have all four cards of the same rank. For example, if you have four kings.
This hand is also sometimes known as quads.
9. Full House
A full house is when you have three cards of the same rank, plus two more cards of the same rank. So, for example, you might have three jacks and two sevens.
This hand is also sometimes known as a full boat.
8. Flush
A flush is when you have all five cards of the same suit. It doesn’t matter what the ranks of the cards are, as long as they’re all hearts, or all spades, or all clubs, or all diamonds.
7. Straight
A straight is when you have five cards in sequential order. It doesn’t matter what suit they are, as long as they go in order from 10 to Ace, or 9 to Ace, or 8 to Ace, etc.
Sometimes this hand is also known as a run. .
6. Three of a Kind
Three of a kind is when you have three cards of the same rank. For example, three jacks, or three sevens.
Sometimes this hand is also known as trips or a set.
5. Two Pair
Two pair is when you have two cards of the same rank plus two more cards of the same rank. So, for example, you might have two queens and two sixes.
4. One Pair
One pair is when you have two cards of the same rank with three other unrelated cards.
So for example, you might have two jacks and a 10, an Ace and a 7 etcetera.
3. High CardIf you don’t have any pairs, or any other made hands mentioned above then your highest card will be your “high card”.
So for example if you had an Ace-high hand such as Ace-Queen-10-9-7 then your Ace would be your high card and you would lose to any other hand with a higher ace such as Ace-King-9-8-7 which would beat your hand since it contains a King instead of just a Queen like yours does).
