What Is a Match in Poker?

In poker, a match is when two or more players have the same rank of card. For example, if two players have a pair of kings, they would have a match.

If all players have the same rank of card, it is called a tie.

PRO TIP:In poker, a “match” occurs when two or more players have the same hand. For example, if two players both have a pair of Aces in their hands, they would be said to be “in a match”. The player with the higher kicker (the highest ranking card which isn’t part of the pair) will win the pot.

There are many different ways to determine who wins in the event of a match. The most common is to compare the highest card in the hand.

If two or more players have the same highest card, then the second highest card is compared, and so on. The player with the highest ranking hand wins the pot.

In some variations of poker, such as Chinese Poker, there are special rules for what happens in the event of a match. In these cases, it is often necessary to compare the hands of all players involved in the match to determine who wins.
