Monarch Casino Hotel first opened its doors in 1992. The brainchild of casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, the property was built on the site of the former Dunes Hotel and Casino.

Adelson spared no expense in building the luxurious property, which featured a 30-story hotel tower, an expansive casino floor, and a host of high-end amenities.

The Monarch quickly became a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike. Its success was short-lived, however, as the property was forced to close just four years after opening due to financial difficulties.
