When Did Tesuque Casino Open?

Tesuque Pueblo’s Santa Fe Southern Railway Casino opened in October 2008, becoming the first and only casino in New Mexico to be located on a working railroad. The casino is located on the site of a former gas station and restaurant near the intersection of Highway 285 and Tesuque Pueblo Road, about 10 miles south of Santa Fe.

The casino features video poker and slot machines, as well as blackjack and three-card poker tables. The 5,600-square-foot facility also includes a bar and a restaurant.

The casino is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Tesuque Pueblo officials say the casino is intended to generate revenue for the tribe and create jobs for its members. The tribe also operates the Tesuque Village Market, a grocery store and gas station on the pueblo, as well as a hotel and RV park.

In December 2008, the Santa Fe Southern Railway announced it would discontinue passenger service between Santa Fe and Lamy, New Mexico due to low ridership. The last passenger train ran on April 30, 2009.
