Who Won the 2016 World Series of Poker?

The 2016 World Series of Poker (WSOP) was held from May 31-July 18 at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. A total of 6,737 entrants from 107 different countries participated in the event, with the winner taking home $8 million.

American professional poker player Qui Nguyen was the eventual winner of the event, defeating Gordon Vayo in the final heads-up match. Nguyen had never won a WSOP bracelet prior to this event, and his victory came as a bit of a surprise to many.

Nguyen entered the final day of play in fourth chip position, but he managed to make a comeback and defeat Vayo in the end. The final hand saw Nguyen holding a pair of nines, while Vayo had a pair of sevens.

Nguyen’s pair held up and he was crowned the champion.

This was the first time in WSOP history that two players from Vietnam made it to the final table. Nguyen and Vayo both put up a great fight, but in the end Nguyen emerged victorious and took home the $8 million first-place prize.
