How Do Warlock Spell Slots Work 5E?

Warlock spell slots work a little differently than those of other classes. When you get a new level in Warlock, you don’t automatically get new spell slots.

Instead, you can choose to replace one of your existing spell slots with a new one. This process is called “trading up.”.

Warlocks can use any type of spell slot they want when they trade up, but they can only trade up for a slot of equal or higher level. So if you’re a 3rd-level warlock, the earliest you could trade up is for a 4th-level slot.

And if you’re a 17th-level warlock, the highest-level slot you could trade for is an 18th-level slot.
