The website did not give a reason for the closure, but said that the casino would be closed “until further notice.” An employee who answered the phone at the casino said that she did not know when the casino would reopen.

The Upper Sioux Community purchased the casino in 2016 from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community for $26 million. The Shakopee tribe had operated the casino since 1995.

The closure of Prairie’s Edge comes as another blow to the already struggling city of Granite Falls. The city has been struggling to revitalize its downtown area, and the loss of one of its largest employers will likely make that task even more difficult.
